It Is Possible To Overcome Social Anxiety.

by Serge Taylor

Social anxiety is so common these days that it has become the third highest rating psychological issue occuring today and even though it is so common is is still very much misunderstood.

The condition can present itself in many different ways. General paranoia where someone feels like everyone is watching them when logically they know that is not true is one such example.

Social anxiety disorder can be thought of as fear of life itself in some respects. Fear of picking up the phone, opening a letter, a knock at the door always accompanied by an impending fear of doom are some of the problems sufferers of the condition have to contend with everyday.

The bottom line issue that everyone suffering from social anxiety is suffering with is an overall feeling of fear and worry about the outside world and especially in relation to people and social situations. They worry constantly about how others see them as they feel that others are never looking at them in a positive way.

While most people will have some issues with job interviews and public speaking situations for example if you suffer with social anxiety these are literally paralysing events that are virtually impossible to perform.

If the condition worsens to the point of a social phobia developing it has become a psychiatric condition that combines extreme fear and anxiety with a disabling self consciousness.

And there is the ever present overwhelming worry about being watched and judged by others and the fear of embarrassing or humiliating themselves in front of other people. Usually some social trigger will set things off. This does not even need to be actually happening just percieved to be happening.

Fortunately, even though the cause is not entirely understood there are methods available today to help people who have to deal with social anxiety. There are a number of conventional therapeutic techniques that can be used as well as a number of less than conventional “alternative” therapies that have helped many people free themselves of the condition.
